The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children-1929

Important Correspondence.
1. From Leith Branch of the Society for
the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
49 CONSTITUTION
LEIIH, 10th October 1929.
SIB. — I would seek the publicity of your Church
Supplement to bring before your people the claims of
the Leith Branch of the Royal Scottish Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
While some cases are brought before the notice of the
authorities, the main work of the Society lies in the
advice anti help given to young mothers in the upbringing
of their children. The Leith Society has for the
last number of years made an endeavour to assist in
the adequate provision of clothes and bedding for the
children. The help and assistance given have been
greatly appreciated by the many persons who have
obtained relief.
The winter months have already approached when
extra clothing and bedding are urgently required, and
in view of the great unemployment and poverty which
exist in Leith, my Committee would take this opportunity
to make their appeal as strong as possible.
I trust that our appeal will meet with the sympathetic
understanding of your people. Friends who may
desire to help these distressed persons and to prevent
a cruelty which otherwise cannot be avoided, might
send their donations either in cash or clothing and bedding,
new or unrequired, to the Secretary, Leith
Branch of the Royal Scottish Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Children, 49 Constitution Street,
Leith. All goods will be gratefully acknowledged. —
I am, etc.,
ANDREW H. A. MURRAY, Councillor,
Chairman, Leith Branch R.S.8.P.C.C.
