Last Dying Speeches

So that the condemned criminal could face God with a clear conscience, convention dictated that convicts should make a full confession and repentance of their sins in their speeches at the gallows. These speeches were often published as short pamphlets or broadsheets, often including accounts of the behaviour of the condemned at their execution.
