Let Leith museum carve itself place like sculpture has

I READ your story “Grand designs on site for sculptors” (News, May 13). People have campaigned for over 60 years for a Leith Museum, so I must ask a question.

If neither the Scottish Parliament nor Edinburgh City Council can fund a museum in Leith which the number of visitors to the port would justify, which the people of Leith have demanded and supported in their thousands, which local business want: how can they justify the funding for the sculpture centre at Newhaven which to the best of my knowledge nobody has campaigned for? Nor has it anything to do with the history or culture of the area.

But nevertheless they are throwing £4.5 million of taxpayers’ money at it. Not their money, our money!

So the views, opinions and wishes of the people of Leith are ignored once again.

I thought the council was meant to represent the views of the people; apparently not in Edinburgh.
