French History Uncovered In Leith
A major piece of Edinburgh’s history has been unearthed at Bryant Homes’ Tower Street development in Leith.
The results of a site investigation, carried out by Bryant Homes as part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s planning process, have revealed the remains of a 16th century fortress - a find of national significance.
Archaeologists at EASE Archaeology are working to restore the remains of three large walls. Two walls, discovered in 2001, are thought to represent a fortification of 1649 with an 18th century sea wall built against it. The third wall is part of Ramsay’s Fort, built between 1548 and 1559. for more click here
