MORE than 100 years ago, a trip to the shops in Leith might have involved a journey on a horse-drawn tram, with female passengers carefully negotiating the steps in their long dresses. After arriving at the foot of Leith Walk, shoppers would pass billboards advertising products such as Fry’s Cocoa, before passing into the genteel surroundings of stores such as George Marr’s fruiterers and confectioners. for more click here
