The Martello Tower 1809

In 1809 the Martello Tower was built for the defence of Leith against Napoleon. It cost 17,000 pounds to build. It is over thirty feet high with walls eight feet thick, with several rooms and what was a powder magazine. Three heavy guns were mounted on its upper platform.
