All-action hero from mists of history

HE WAS a sailor in the early 19th century who took an extraordinary round-the-the-world voyage, during which his feet and two of his fingers were amputated because of frostbite after a shipwreck in Alaska.

His journey included a stint as a large landowner in Hawaii before he returned to Scotland penniless, and was forced to raise money by “crawling” through the streets of Edinburgh and Leith, playing music and relating his life story. for more click here
