In 1302 Sir Henry St. Clair of Dalhousie Castle declared that he was to marry Lady Margaret Ramsay. The marriage plan ran counter to Edward I of England’s attempts to eliminate alliances between Scotland and France. Prior to the battle Sir Robert Neville was to attack Borthwick Castle, Sir Ralph Confrey’s force was to beseige Dalhousie castle, while the remaining force under Sir John Seagrave, and assisted by the English paymaster, Ralph de Manton, marched on Rossyln Castle. for more click here
