During the 1930’s fanatical protestants tried to rouse a anti-catholic crusade which despite initial success didn’t attract a mass following. By 1962 Cormack had become a lonely and isolated figure.

The change in attitudes between Protestants and Catholics came about due to the same World War II experiences, the return of full employment and the welfare state.
