Twenty-two Generations of Leiths

The De Leyth Clan came from Breton France. They arrived in Midlothian Scotland in the Fourteenth Century and changed the family name to be consistent with the spelling of the port of Leith, in Edinburgh.

There is actually another explanation for the name “Leith” and that is in the past if a child was found abandoned in Leith and brought up by the Parish it was normally christened with the surname “Leith” and many “Leith” descendents can trace their origins to the town of Leith
