The Jubilee Elder (1840-1890)

On the evening of Tuesday 26th January 1890 the Congregation assembled in Junction Road Church to celebrated the jubilee of Robert Wright as an elder.

The Church eas crowded from every part. Cingratulatory addresses were presented by the Societies of the congregation, the managers, the Session and the Edinburgh Presbytery, and Mr Wright was presented with a full Length portrait of himself by Robert Gibb RSA. The presentation was made by the Rev James M.Scott MA on behalf of the congregation and during the evening addresses were delivered by the Rev James Rennie of Glasgow and the Rev Gavin S. Muir MA.

The following hymn composed for the occasion was sung by the audience at the the close of Mr Wright’s reply to Mr Scott’s address-

“Let our songs of praise ascending]
Rise before the eternal throne,
Heart and voice harmonious blending
Till their echoes sound as one
Be our wishes prayerful, fervent
Offering meet to send to heaven
For the good and faithful servant
God unto our Church hath given”

On the 11th January 1893 being the day before Mr Wright’s eightieth birthday, the Session sent him a congratulatory letter to which he replied in a steady hand
