The strange Tale of William Cowper

William Cowper who was Bishop of Galloway in 1619 was addicted to the game of golf and would play as much as possible on the links of Leith.

However this didn’t go down well with the as the record shows “the wives of Edinburgh” and said he should prepare “to answer shortly before the Judge of the World”. He must have smiled and forgot about it.

Two or three days later he was on the Links again playing a round of golf with two friends when all of a sudden he saw two ghostly men approaching with drawn swords at the sight of this apparition he throw away his golf clubs and gasped “I vow to be about with these two men who have come upon me with drawn swords”. His friends replied “My Lord it is a dream, we saw no such thing”. The Bishop stood silent and then went home trembling and went to bed and died instantly

So take a warning all you lovers of the game of golf!
